Asbestos Fibres.jpg

What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral made up of many small fibres. Asbestos is highly resistant to heat, fire, chemicals and wear.

Why is Asbestos considered a danger to human health?

Asbestos according to the World Health Organisation is classed as a group 1 carcinogen. Asbestos can cause cancer and other health problems including:

  • Asbestosis (scarring of lung tissue).

  • Mesothelioma (malignant tumours).

  • Pleural plaques (thickening of membranes around the lungs).

  • Cancer of the lung, larynx and ovary.

What is my risk of being exposed to Asbestos?

Asbestos only becomes a risk when it is damaged or disturbed increasing the risks that the fibres will be realised into the air and breathed in.

If Asbestos is damaged or disturbed or you are looking to renovate your home or work building, or carry out maintenance, that is the time where you have to be careful and start thinking about management of the Asbestos and consider Asbestos testing.

If Asbestos is undisturbed, in good condition and encapsulated (enclosed) it will pose very little risk to you.

However, certain Asbestos containing materials are considered higher risk of realising fibres.

If you have any doubt, always seek advice of a qualified professional, experienced and trained in the identification and management of asbestos.

What People Are Saying

“What a pleasure to have JC Consultants carry out the inspection/report on Asbestos presence at our home & attached flat - needless to say we were a tad apprehensive (knowing very little about Asbestos).

James was a most affable inspector, very thorough in his work and clearly very knowledgeable, whilst he was very professional in his work processes he was also exceedingly good at answering my questions and putting my mind at ease.

I strongly recommend their services, professional manner and quick responses in all matters.

Thanks again James you're a "gem" mate”
