Asbestos Management Surveys
Do I need an Asbestos Management Plan?
Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) is now mandatory under the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Act 2016. The regulation for this plan was enforced in April 2018.
All business buildings and workplaces are now required by law to have an Asbestos Management (AMP). This included all Commercial Buildings and Outlets as well as Residential Landlords.
If you are responsible for running a business, you are considered a Person Conducting Business of Undertaking (PCBU) and you responsible to make sure your building has an Asbestos Management Plan.
It is also great idea as a homeowner to have a plan. If you carry any types of work it is your responsibility to protect the people who are doing the work as well as yourself.

History of Asbestos in New Zealand
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral made up of many small fibres that are strong and highly resistant to heat, fire, chemicals and wear, making it very popular with the NZ building industry. At one point it was used in over 3000 products.
From 1948 when New Zealand’s first asbestos factory was opened, until 2016 when the asbestos regulations bought in the banning of importing and exporting asbestos products. New Zealand has had a major epidemic of asbestos related diseases. Asbestos is a proven human carcinogen and all forms of asbestos can cause cancer.
